Cozied up in my front garden, lovely foraging friends. From the left to right: burdock, dandelions, ground ivy (aka creeping Charlie, gill over the ground, everyones Bain). Ground ivy is more on the medicinal side of foraging so I wouldn’t toss it in my salad.
Burdock is great to dig this time of year for a second year roots and cook like parsnips.
Dandelion is a nice accent to a salad when they are young and that lovely vibrant green. A wonderful bitter herb. Dig and roast the roots for a delish coffee type substitute or booster.
Not in a place where these grow wild (or a place that’s good to harvest due to pollution)? Of course I have to give a shout out to our shop where we sell dried roasted dandelion root and burdock root. Link in the profile. There’s something wonderfully poetic eating seasonal foods - even when we are unable to pick them fresh from the garden.

The tulips are starting to make their appearance and Monday tea in the garden couldn’t make us happier. Loved this photo by @teacachai and like them, oolong is filling my cup, but an Ali Shan that’s on the green side of oxidation. The citrus notes are so refreshing after digging in the garden. #dailytea #teaday #mondaytea
Posted @withregram • @teacachai First week of August already...Sunny and hot here but I know my friends in the Southern hemisphere are quite cold!
I’m always looking to inspire you to explore and drink new and good tea... that’s my ultimate goal! Today in my cup, a lovely 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠. Medium bodied, very toasty and nutty with some minerality and fruitiness to it. Long finish and beautiful honey color.
Just for curiosity, which hemisphere are you in?
Different kind of times, different kind of learning, different kind of afternoon tea. I’m enjoying a loose pu’er in my favorite mug and one of our silicone topped tea infusers. It was my grandmas and never fails to bring a smile to my face, it says “Whisper a promise, whistle a tune, fall asleep, with a smile for a moon.” I know, a hard ask lately, but I’m taking joy where I can.
Many of us in Iowa are starting to homeschool our kiddos today. I opted to invest in the Blossom and Root integrated nature based curriculum last week and brought out a book I picked up long ago called Playful Learning. I can’t recommend them enough for elementary aged kids.
And oh yes, tea time will definitely be part of afternoon break time 🤓🍵🌲🌲🌲 Oh and a shop update too. We are shipping daily, but are a couple days delayed over our usual handling time due to volume. We are running out of some things and we are marking them out of stock as fast as we can.
